Student Support. The school district incorporates support times into the daily school schedule hours. “I use this time to plan out the rest of my day while also getting my work done, so I have more time to do things I like,” sophomore Michael Renteria said.

After being separated and distant during the months of remote learning, seniors place their hand on the wall to partake in the senior wall tradition. “I love the tradition and this year it means so much more, as it could be the closest these kids are to each other. It is absolutely so great to give this normal to the seniors,” student council advisor Amber Bronson said. The wall was completed on Feb. 5th.

After the first in-person rehearsal of the school year comes to a close, seniors Erik Smith and Joseph McGivern, who act as Al and Mike respectively, discuss the weather for the first time in months. “It (the weather) decides it wants to be cold in all of the wrong areas and warm in all of the wrong areas, such as freezing over my windshield only,” Smith said. They left rehearsal ready to come back the next day.

With the pandemic still present, the school adapts by putting safety protocols in place, which includes mask-wearing and social distancing. “Were adapting to something weve never had to deal with before. Weve never dealt with a pandemic before. So unfortunately, it takes some of these protocols to be in place and students are doing a fantastic job,” principal Jared Mcevoy said. Most students haven’t attended school since March 2020.

Ocean Breeze server Lucy Sinistaj serves a table of guests for the first time in over two months. “I was so excited [when I found out restaurants would reopen],” Sinistaj said. “I love everybody; I love all the customers that come in. Ive been working for them for 20 years. I love everything about it.” Ocean Breeze continues to give guests tables to choose from.

While the pandemic may make it difficult to keep a strong mental health, a new club, Supporting Others Arise Radiantly (S.O.A.R.), seeks to make it easier for students to do just that. “I wanted to start this club because I think it’s very important to bring awareness to mental health and the reality of it. It also serves as a support group to those who need it,” senior Cassidy Hamilton said.

 As exams near, junior Sofia Hemingway studies. “[I think the exams will be] harder this year because I feel unorganized and lost with so many of my classes online,” Hemingway said. She and her family plan to travel west during exam week.
