Finishing top 100 for the boys varsity cross country states’ race, senior Jacob Maurer and junior Tyler Brothers celebrate finishing off the season. This was Maurer’s last year and another finish for Brothers. Their dedication to the team before and during the season helped them achieve their goal of making it to states.

On the count of three, the gunshot rang through the air as runners took off at the state championship for mens varsity cross country.

“It was a goal of mine since joining the team, so that had been special for me,” senior Jacob Maurer said.

Both Maurer and junior Tyler Brothers made the top 100 with Maurer placing 88th and Brothers ranking in 89th. They were the first boys to make it to states in five years. Harnessing all their hard work through summer training and camp helped them accomplish this rewarding task.

“I received a lot of training and support from my teammates and my family,” Maurer said.

In cross country a strong finish can make or break someone’s place. Brothers was able to pass an opponent right at the end, giving him a powerful finish to a great season. Looking forward, Brothers plans to return next year.

“Yeah, I’m coming back next year,” Brothers said. “I’m excited just to improve and see where I can go as a senior.”
