Standing in the rain, sophomore Madailein Elton watches the Changing of the Guard ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. “We went to see the changing of the guard and it absolutely just started pouring. We all got completely soaked; that was an experience,” Elton said. Students returned to the hotel and changed out of their wet clothes before continuing on to see the White House and Newseum.

Sophomore Amela Halkic puts Toys for Tots bottle drive fliers on mail boxes. “I think it’s a great way to help out kids that are in need,” Halkic said. As a member of Student Council, she tried to get publicity for the council’s upcoming bottle drives for Toys for Tots.

The News Media Program were Crown award finalists at the 2019 Fall Conference on Oct. 31. “You guys are part of a program that has a history of just doing phenomenal things and being successful. You guys have the opportunity to continue the legacy that the students before you have  started and worked so hard for,” principal Jared McEvoy said. The Eagle’s Eye continued their hard work on their website and their print paper as well as their new app after they received the announcement.

News media goes for the gold

While the French students enjoy a catered dinner at Malow Jr. High, they also take the time to talk with their peers. Some of the older students thought it was exciting to see the next group of kids. “[My favorite part was] seeing some of the other french students from here and the next generation of French students,” sophomore Mina Metzler said.

Several types of chamber groups performed throughout the day in various areas in the school.

The team celebrates their District Championship win over Lake Orion on Friday, Nov. 8, 2019 sporting their traditional playoff bleached hair. “It’s something we do here every time we have playoffs and usually the whole team gets their hair bleached,” senior quarterback Blake Rastigue said.The bleached hair dates back to 1999, according to head coach Chris Smith.
