After being crowned, the 1980s homecoming court takes a picture. “I would rather go to homecoming in the 80s,” sophomore Griffin Sheridan said. “The music was better.” Most of the music played at this year’s dance was club music.

A big parade, fancy dresses, tuxedos and big hair; this is what homecoming was like in the 1980s.

“Now you have to get a limo and take pictures,” Social Studies teacher Kevin Donahue said. “Homecoming wasn’t as elaborate when I was in school.”

Students back then still took pictures beforehand, went out to dinner and attended after-parties. However, more students took dates and there was an entire parade dedicated to the dance.

Fashions were completely different; girls wore their best dresses and guys wore tuxedos. Also, the music has changed from the 80s rock to modern pop and dubstep. Not to mention, the dancing has evolved too.

“Kids still like to get together and have fun for homecoming,” Donahue said. “It helps them not worry about the pressures of school.”
