Lauren Kostiuk receives her award. “I felt overjoyed when she won the award” sophomore Jasmine Feeley said. “To see her win it just felt great.”

Last Tuesday, Newspaper and Yearbook went to Michigan Interscholastic Press Association (MIPA) Spring Contests in downtown Lansing. Both publications won a Spartan award, which is the highest honor the organization offers.

“I always tell my students that its not about the awards they win, but it sure is nice when someone recognizes all their hard work and dedication to telling stories,” advisor Erica Kincannon said. “I’m extremely proud that both of our publications won this award.”

Other highlights from the event included senior Lauren Kostiuk winning Journalism Education Association’s Michigan’s High School Journalist of the Year, MIPA All-State Journalist Staff and MIPA All-State Multiplatform award.

“I was very honored and blessed when I received the awards,” Kostiuk said. “It all felt extremely awesome especially after all the hard work I put into my portfolios.”
