The Varsity hockey team takes their team photo. As their season comes to an end David Erwin transitions over as the head coach.

With 16 coaching seasons under his belt, previous assistant Varsity hockey coach David Erwin takes on the head coaching position.

“Bob Hall did a great job of building the program and I’m excited about having the opportunity to continue building in a positive direction and making it a place for all hockey players that attend Eisenhower High School to want to play for the high school team,” Erwin said.

For the past two years, Erwin coached as the assistant coach alongside Hall. Prior, he coached the Little Caesar’s and Bell Tire girls’ hockey teams for 14 years. His passion for hockey started much younger, however. He grew up playing the sport and played for four years at the University of Buffalo. 

“He (Erwin) is a good coach. He’s really defensive minded and people respect him a lot,” senior center Quinn Pfeifenberger said.

Throughout his coaching experience, Erwin learned a lot. He realized players play their best when they feel confident and bringing players together is essential.

“My favorite thing about coaching is watching the players as they progress and get better throughout the course of the season and watching the team come together as a whole and get better,” Erwin said.

Filling the shoes left before him, Erwin plans to lead the team in confidence next season.

“I’m excited about the players we have returning to the team next year and we’ve got a good influx of new players that are coming into the program,” Erwin said. “I’m just excited to see them all come together, and I think this team can be very successful.”
