Cure mid-winter break boredom

It’s break time—phew. Now what do you do with your spare time?

Music
If you enjoy music, but don’t have money or prefer not to spend much on going out, there are some cost-friendly alternatives for concerts and music. At El Club, a venue located in Detroit, a garage rock band “The Detroit Cobras,” performs on Feb. 22nd and ticket, start at $16 per person. On Feb. 24th, an American surf rock band, “Man or Astro-Man?” performs and tickets start at $20 per person. Another concert over the mid-winter break is an Elton John Tribute, “Captain Fantastic,” at Diesel Concerts Detroit. The show lasts two hours and begins at 7 p.m. on Feb. 15, with tickets ranging from $15-120.

Detroit activities
Detroit offers artistic events and opportunities year round. The Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA) is one of the most common art event venues. From February 14 to the end of break, the DIA holds a variety of events along with some new exhibits to check out. Bringing a student ID earns museum goers a discount during a visit. Additionally, at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Detroit, on Feb. 22nd, a free self-portrait drawing session will be held by Rashaun Rucker.

Movies
If you prefer to take it easy and stay closer to home, see some movies coming out. On Feb. 14, the movies: “Sonic the Hedgehog” “Fantasy Island” “The Photograph” and “Downhill” release. On Feb. 21, the movies: “The Call of The Wild” “Emma” “Brahams” and “The Boy” release. You can also see a performance at the Macomb Performing Arts Center, which ranges from $30-70 and these -include musical and theatrical entertainment.

Sports
Sports can be a good way to cure boredom. At Pine Knob, specials are available depending on the day. On Thursday’s they host a ladies’s day at $33 and they offer the same price on Wednesday’s for a men’s day. For everyone, they have a tremendous Tuesday discount, which is a price of $28. If skiing isn’t your thing, Urban Air Trampoline Park offers options than trampolines; they offer rock-climbing, a skyrider and a ropes course. If you want premium access to all of this, it’s $30 per person.

Food
After being active, you may need a snack to satisfy your hunger. At many different food places they offer a 10 -20 percent discount if you show your school ID; McDonalds, Arby’s, Subway, Pizza Hut, Dairy Queen, Chipotle and Chick-Fil-A. This is a great option if one wants a discount. Also, El Club is known for their “Pizzaeria at El Club”, which one can get while seeing a performance.
