The thespian kids came from the awards ceremony which wrapped up the trip. “The excitement was all around the group at fest, everybody was excited about the competition and everyone was ready to give it there all,” Randazzo said. They preform for a panel of judges who score and rank the groups.

The Drama club is headed to Saginaw Valley State University in Michigan to compete in this years Thespian Festival on Dec. 5.

“Its a learning experience for multiple drama groups or troupe’s,” Junior Nick Bara said. “That allows kids to apply for drama related scholarships.”

The trip was available to anyone who was interested in going, provided they were interested in the learning experience. A total of 50 students are attending the festival from school this year.

“I’m not competing, but you did not have to, some people go just to observe and get a feel for the event,” Bara said.

The group of acting participants have been rehearsing for the festival since before the production of Get Smart was completed.

“Rehearsals range from vocal practices to dance numbers, and acting skits,” Junior Tommy Randazzo said. “There are also different group sizes for different competition categories”.

The Festival will end on the 6th of December the day of the awards ceremony and the students will arrive home in the early hours of the morning on Sunday.

“Backstage work is not unnoticed in the festival, there are many opportunities for the not so dramatic to show what they can do behind the scenes,” Bara said. “Costume design and light design are examples of some of the categories available to non-actors”.

The festival is not only a place to win scholarships but national merits in theatre can be awarded. The event is considered as a serious competition for students who would like to become more involved with theatre arts.

“It’s been a lot of hard work to reach this point but I am confident that the work will pay off,” Randazzo said. “I’m optimistic that both of my groups are capable of not only receiving a superior but being superior.”
