Together co-presidents seniors Bridget Knoflach and Carson Walters bring back the Creative Writing Club.
“The club is good for anyone who is interested in publishing or majoring in writing in the future. It also helps with your revising skills and how to revise other people’s work,” senior Creative Writing Club member Ethan Thiery said.
The first meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 9 was an informational gathering where they introduced themselves and discussed what they like to write. The club currently has a total of 12 members with Andrew Bulat as the advisor. The club has been a part of the school in the past, but it came back this year because Co-President Bridget Knoflach wanted a place to express her passion of writing.
“I agreed to be the sponsor of the Creative Writing Club because one of my students asked me to do so, and I wanted to support her passion for writing creatively, ” sponsor Andrew Bulat said. “I was encouraged further at our first club meeting by the excitement many of the other students had, and I look forward to helping foster their interests as the year progresses.”
The club allows students to channel their interest in writing and improve their skills as an author. They focus on a different topic every meeting. They talked about their plans for the year and created various writing prompts to discuss and eventually write about.
“We also plan on going to different events to get some inspiration to inspire us with our writing,” Thiery said.
Their plan for every meeting is to have a writing prompt picked out and then have the chance to free write. When they finish writing the team members offer constructive criticism and give ideas on how to improve their story.
“This club can provide a supportive environment with constructive criticism, which is beneficial for improvement,” senior Creative Writing Club member Hailey Jackson said. “It also offers a space for writing development and feedback. The club is offered to all regardless of writing proficiency.”
