Standing in the front of the bleachers, seniors cheer in the student section for their friends on the football field. “The best thing is to support all your friends when they’re out there, because you know they will be there for your games.” said junior Jack Tobiczyk said.

Fourth quarter, 15 seconds left, junior power forward Justin Greason, of the Mens Varsity basketball team scores the winning basket of the game. The crowd chants and screams for their teams victory.

“Some of my favorite memories are when I can see all of the kids in the stands going crazy for me and my team, it’s a great feeling.” Greason said.

As some athletes take in the noise, others focus on themselves and their teammates to go for the win.

“All the kids in the stands went crazy at the cancer game against Romeo, but when I was on the ice I focused on the game without even realizing it, then looked up and saw my friends going crazy,” junior Varsity Hockey center Brendan Folksa said.

Student sections are not only important to the players, they’re important for students to attend school events with friends and to come together to cheer on the teams.

“The fans have made the difference in so many games I can’t even count,” Athletic Director Chris Corteg said. “At the homecoming game this year it was close for some time, but the students really were there for the boys the whole game.”

Student sections, no matter the size, from hundreds at the Varsity Football games to the 50-70 at the hockey and basketball games, take pride in supporting sporting events.

“During the games the student sections really help pick the whole team back up if there was a bad call or booing from the other side,” junior Varsity Basketball center Isaiah Mclaughlin said. “All we have to do is look up at our student section and it gives us extra confidence to keep going.”
