Film senior Thomas Dilger films a movie during the pandemic

With his artful eye and mind behind the camera, senior Thomas Dilger films a movie during the Covid-19 pandemic.
“I’ve been applying to colleges and scholarships with this movie,” Dilger said. “I’ve also been sending it to Scholastics for some awards.”
The pandemic hit Dilger and the film class hard. In the middle of a group project, they switched to individual projects during the state lockdown. Dilger and film teacher Josephine Braun discussed how to put together a film because of the lockdown guidelines.
“I was very proud that he stayed within the Governor’s guidelines and pushed ahead with zero help from me,” Braun said.
His movie is about four outlaws who robbed a bank and tried to get away from the cops. The cops caught them faster than they anticipated and try to figure out how they were caught so fast. As a result, the four outlaws come together to form a gang and figure out what to do next.
While Dilger was able to film the entire production during the state’s mandated shutdown, Dilger was stopped short of showing the movie off to family and friends.
“I wanted to do a big premiere where everyone would come over and watch it together,” Dilger said. “It wasn’t a good idea so we didn’t do it since it wasn’t safe.”
In the end, Dilger said finishing the film made his year worth it.
“This work in particular marked a significant point in his student film making career,” Braun said. “I felt humbled knowing that he will go places with his wit and drive.”
