Medical Health students expand their classroom

Neurologist, cardiologist, anesthesiologist. With so many different “-ologists”, it’s difficult to know what’s what. However, on Friday, Med Health students had the opportunity to take a field trip to Baker College to learn about what it takes to become a doctor.

“This is a really great trip. Whether they go to Baker or not, it gets the students thinking about college,” Med Health teacher Phil Crum said.

Students received 12 presentations by the faculty at Baker in order to show them different career options in the medical field. The presentations helped inform the students about different aspects of becoming a doctor.

The 130 students split up into groups and visited the presentations for 15 minutes each. Among the demonstrations was information on nursing, surgical tech, massage therapy, medical assistance and pharmacy tech.

“I was really excited to go,” junior Alyssa Fraczek said. “I want to go into medicine when I get older, so it was a really beneficial experience.”
