The spirit rock painted to honor Gavin Miller’s life.

The football team will meet Romeo on the field once again today, not only to play, but to honor former Romeo football player Gavin Miller who died last spring in a car accident.

Miller’s memory is honored by a spirit rock added to the school this week. The first painting is for respect towards Romeo rather than a design for the school.

“We decided to paint it for Gavin, so I think we also kind of did it as an act of camaraderie with Romeo,” Student Council president Therese Reinhold said.

The rock is painted yellow, Miller’s favorite color, with his football jersey number 57 and Miller’s name on it.

Though the rock will be a representation of school in the future; right now it serves as a symbol of respect. And it remained that way for the first week.

“It was pretty cool to see our two schools come together over Gavin and just remembering his life,” Student Council member Bella Agrusa said. “It’s pretty significant and interesting.”

Any club or group in the school can paint the rock by filling out a request form, which was sent to all staff members by Student Council Advisor Amber Bronson. The form must be submitted to Bronson in room 518. The request approval process can take up to one week.
