Yoga club members practiced the child’s pose position. “Child’s pose relaxes me and lets me prepare myself for the next pose; it is awesome,” yoga club member junior Brandon Tomayko said. Members enjoy this position during each meeting.

Students are welcomed with open arms, minds and bent backs at the yoga and meditation clubs, which meet once a week after school.

“I just want kids to find time to relax, be flexible and learn how to concentrate better. I want people to feel stronger, be more focused; and it just fills your heart with peace and calm,” yoga club instructor Karolyn Tomayko said.

The club meets Mondays at 2:15 in the PAC lobby. Members will start practicing beginner poses and as the year progresses will execute more advanced positions.

Meanwhile, the meditation club starts at 2:20 on Thursdays in room 310. Participants will begin meditating and exploring different types of practices like zen, mindful breathing, talking and walking.

“I started this club to spread inner peace and consciousness, so everyone at this school will be at peace, happy, kind, genuine and focused throughout the day,” junior club founder Allie Negro said.

Both clubs encourage new students to join each week. No experience is needed, but club instructors and founders ask that members take the clubs seriously so everyone will be at peace and relax.
