There’s a light chatter in the commons, some of the Life Centered Career Education students dress up in costumes; Project Unify throws their annual Halloween party with a selection of activities available.
“It helps students because they want to feel like they’re taking part in something, so having the students come from Project Unify and interact with them helps build their self-confidence and self-esteem that they’re feeling part of a community,” Project Unify sponsor Tina Moore said.
Project Unify is a group of students who participate in events with the LCCE students. Volunteers helped with the party. The activities took place in and outside of Tina Moore’s room. It was planned by the club’s president Sarah Finitzer and Vice President Nashita Aziz.
“It’s something that’s a fun way to end the day and the Project Unify members can go home happy. Then throughout the day they can look forward to the party,” Finitzer said.
During the party, there were different stations for the LCCE class to participate in. Their party included ring toss and arts and crafts. The crafts involved using watercolor paint and ghosts made out of a paper roll. Project Unify tries to change these activities each year so they can be different for the returning students.
“We throw the party for the LCCE kids because it gives them something to look forward to,” Finitzer said. “And it helps them to have a better time at school.”
