Allmacher breaks track record

Junior Sam Allmacher broke the school 3200 meter track record by one second with a time of 11 minutes and 28 seconds on April 29, 2014.

“I’ve had thoughts of breaking a track record since I was in 9th grade,” Allmacher said. “It’s always in the back of my head during a meet.”

The record had not been broken since 2008, when alumnus Jen Rock broke the record with a time of 11 minutes and 29 seconds.

“When I started running on Tuesday, I wasn’t really thinking about breaking a record that day,” she said. “Once I started running, I knew I would be able to break a record that day.”

The meet took place at the home track against Romeo. Four girls competed in the race, with Allmacher coming out on top.

“As soon as I crossed the finish line and I heard my time, I was so excited,” Allmacher said. “I knew immediately that I had broken the record.”
