Hatching new opportunities, Honors English 10 and English 12 teacher Elsa Pergjoni begins her first official teaching job by joining the eagle family.
“I’m excited that I have honors and English 12, and so it would be cool to teach those for a couple years. Maybe I can get a couple more sections of honors, because I really do like that but I also really do like working with the seniors. I think the thing I’m most excited for is seeing how those relationships are going to be built by the end of the school year,” Pergjoni said.
After student teaching at Stevenson high school, earning her degree at Oakland University and substitute teaching at Dakota high school, Pergjoni ended up at Eisenhower to teach two English classes. She brings in a love for not only teaching but for her students as well.
“I really value my students. They’re not just names, they’re people. I really try to get to know all of them, and I really do see them all as my kids. I really care for them and so I’m always trying to push them to do their best and really value getting that hard work in with them,” she said.
Outside of the classroom, Pergjoni spends time with her godson and shops at Target. While she enjoys going out and visiting family, she is an introvert at heart.
“I love being at home. I do like spending time with my friends and going out and stuff but I spend most of my time at home so definitely an introvert,” she said.
Some of Pergjoni’s other favorites include the television show “Bluey” because she used to work with little kids. Additionally, some of her favorite films include “Cars”, “Tangled” and “Beauty and the Beast”.
“My honors kids did an essay about the best movie ever, and my example was Cars. Actually, last week, we did a bracket for best Pixar movie, and I rigged it and I put “Cars” in the finale. I still think “Cars” is an awesome movie,” she said.
With the school year off and running, Pergjoni is excited for what is to come and cannot wait to build bonds with all her students.
“I really like Ms. Pergjoni,” senior Soren Wierbicki said. “I think she’s a great addition to the staff and I really enjoy how she goes in depth with the books that we read.”
