Top 5 ways to make it through flu season
It’s invisible, it’s fast and it’s coming for everybody.
Flu season is approaching quickly and these tips will help everybody stay healthy over the next few months.
1. Get the vaccine
Getting the vaccine is the number one way to avoid the flu. The vaccine is available to anyone at pharmacies such as Walgreens, doctors offices and other medical sources. The flu vaccine helps destroy the virus before it can spread, so it’s the best way to reduce the risk of catching the flu, according to Machesky.
2. Get Plenty of rest
“The more rested your body is, the more energy it’ll have to fight off any viruses,” Doctor Kelly Machesky, MD said.
3.Wash your hands
It’s pretty standard knowledge that washing hands prevents spreading of germs, but pay even more attention to hand hygiene during flu season. 90% of germs are spread by contact so try washing hands regularly or using hand sanitizer whenever possible.
4. Stay Home If You Have a Fever
A fever is the bodies way of saying it needs even more rest than usual. Its in overdrive and is fighting off colds, viruses and other threatening germs, so stay home when body temperature is over 99 degrees Fahrenheit or its easy to catch something else.
5. Don’t share food or drinks.
It’s hard to say no to someone offering a share of their Mountain Dew, but it’s one of the main ways people catch contagious viruses like the flu. Carry around a personal water to stay hydrated and it’ll cut the chances of catching the flu down tremendously.
