Facing challenges early on, the varsity boys basketball team and their new head coach Anthony Muscat are undeterred.
“Our goal is to win our league and district. I think once we get healthy and get our bearings, we are going to be hard to play against,” Muscat said.
Due to injuries in a pre-season scrimmage, the team will be missing two key players, seniors Maddox Moore and Alexander Edgar. Losing two of their tallest players, the team has to address an issue, their size. In a sport that rewards height, their smaller team faces unique issues.
“We have a smaller team than other years, so I feel like our play style is going to be a lot different. We’re going to be running the ball a lot more up the court [with] more traps and press breaking,” senior small forward Marko Trpchevski said.
The team’s style of play will focus more on their speed as opposed to their size, with a less physical and more energetic approach. They will have to “trap” the ball, by running toward and doubling up the ball carrier to hopefully force more turnovers.
“We’re just going to have to adapt,” Trpchevski said. “I feel like we’re going to get better as a team, because we’re going to have to solve those depths that we have in our team now.”
