Today’s youth always find ways to renew the old and it’s happening again, this time the item revived is vinyl.
In seventh grade, I found myself being pulled into a realm of loving anything vintage. This interest eventually led to expanding my music taste to older artists which pushed me into purchasing my first vinyl record. This opened up a new world of music.
The sound becomes cleaner and crisper as the record turns on the player. Instead of noise coming from a tiny electronic, a machine made specifically to play music overwhelms the room in musical harmonies.
In my free time, I found it fun to browse through vinyl wherever I could, at thrift and record stores, even Target or Barnes & Noble. The immersive aspect of flipping through the big square covers, trying to find the right or even a new artist ignites a different feeling than scrolling through a playlist on a phone.
The design features also draw people in. Along with the pleasing sound, the details displayed on the discs are good eye candy. Images printed onto the flat tops of vinyl make them just as good for display art.
Though using a phone can be more convenient, playing music on a record player draws a more intimate feeling. Top artists such as: Taylor Swift, Harry Styles and Olivia Rodrigo also turned to vinyl– expanding their music accessibility.
Whether it’s asking a grandparent to borrow their Beatles albums (like me), or completely going off independently and making a new purchase, I think everyone needs to give records a chance.
