As students search high and low around the school, Ike the elf hides in his daily spot.
“I just thought it would be great to bring some fun back to the building. It’s just something easy to do and fun for the kids,” secretary Sandra Austin said.
Inspired by her own granddaughter’s love for elf on the shelf, Austin restored the tradition, hiding Ike everyday. The first day he hid in a science hall window dressed in goggles when sophomore Nathan Ren spotted him.
“I think it is pretty cool because it’s important for the students to get involved,” Ren said.
After finding Ike, students must email Austin and the first to wins a prize. They can choose from: candy, ice cream or hot chocolate.
“The candy was definitely a motivating factor to find the elf,” Ren said.
Ike’s visit ends on Monday, Dec. 18. In the future, Ike plans on returning next year. Now, Austin wishes students follow the key elf on the shelf rule– don’t touch Ike.
“I didn’t know if the students would want to do this but Ike is getting a great response,” Austin said. “I’m getting emails every morning at 6:15 from students looking for him.”
