Communication and organization are two skills Leadership Day teaches to future leaders.
“You get nominated when you stand out in class and you participate in a lot of things,” senior Leadership day leader Ella Giacalone said. “And overall, have confidence in yourself, so then teachers notice that and then they choose you.”
On Wednesday, Nov. 15 students who were nominated to participate in Leadership Day will spend the day learning what it takes to be a leader. The activities will mainly reside in the Performing Arts Center with student council advisor Amber Bronson and Giacalone.
“The purpose of leadership day is to teach kids that being a leader is good,” Giacalone said. “And taking a role is good because people could always be a role model to others if you’re a leader.”
They will have a surprise guest speaker who will talk about their life experience and what good things come out of being a leader. Games are planned that involve communication revolving around leadership.
“My goal is for everything to run smoothly, which it is right now,” Giacalone said. “But I just want everyone to have fun and everyone get a purpose out of it.”
This is the student council’s 15th year doing Leadership Day. Student council started Leadership Day after learning there were organizations that helped the student council grow leadership talents.
“We are so fortunate because we get to go to all these conferences and get all this training and get to discover things about ourselves,” Bronson said. “We can then take those same sorts of ideas and come back here and use it on a much wider scale to be able to make more leaders within the building itself.”
