Big movie, little man
The latest Marvel film is either a complete hit or miss
New villains, sidekicks, plot twists and an action-filled plot are all aspects of the latest Marvel movie, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.
This new movie is the leading film in chronological order for Phase 5 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Additionally, it follows the other two movies, Ant-Man and Ant-Man and the Wasp. It returns with the star-studded cast to introduce fans to the next chapter of this superhero’s story.
Backing up the positive film comments, Rotten Tomatoes shows the film boasts an 83% Tomatometer and a 85% audience review. Questions from major cliffhangers were answered and explained giving viewers the satisfaction of knowing why and how certain events happened. As a viewer, while the movie had many unique action sequences, it seemed to drag in multiple parts of the film.
Major plot points in this movie revolved around the family bonds between characters and certain lies that held them apart. Scott Lang, Ant-Man, is a very protective father and would do anything to keep his daughter safe, which causes him to overlook how foolish some of his actions are. Bonds like this make characters learn valuable lessons from their mistakes, and by the end of this movie, many character arcs have been established. These efforts can have a positive impact on viewers, teaching them priceless life lessons.
Kang the Conqueror, the antagonist, was built with such an intricate backstory allowing viewers to connect to his struggles. Not many movies are able to fully flesh out the villain, but this movie does just that. By having an idea of his past, film watchers are able to understand why Kang acts the way he does and his viewpoints of the world, rather than having him do the actions with no reason for doing them.
While there are many things to praise about this movie, it missed the mark on other objectives. One example is the previous two movies were known for having a very sarcastic and humorous protagonist, but in the new film, the humor seemed to be watered down. There may have been moments here and there where the humor hit home, but overall the jokes in this movie were non-existent or fell flat.
Where did the comical Scott Lang from the first two movies go?
Seeing this movie in theaters was something many looked forward to, and while it may not have been the best Marvel movie released, it definitely was able to shape the future for Ant-Man and the upcoming Marvel movies in Phase 5 and beyond. It is no surprise that in classic Marvel fashion, viewers were left on a major cliffhanger.
Now the only thing left to do is wait.
