Students aren’t customers
College tuition is an epidemic that needs to stop
Students graduate college and are hit with thousands in student debt. College tuition needs to be lowered.
College tuition should be lowered for all colleges because all students deserve a chance at a higher education. These prices are high for an in-state resident to pay and even higher for out-of-state residents which affects families with low incomes. Making college more affordable levels the playing field for students going into college. “College education is rising faster than wages,” according to the University of People.
The average student loan debt of 2021 was $39,351 compared to 2010 when it was $26,125, according to The College Investor. Due to this, students take out additional loans to cover other living expenses such as an apartment. This leaves little money for life’s simple pleasures such as eating out.
College tuition is affordable to 37 percent of Americans, giving those students the opportunity to get ahead of the other 63 percent of students who need more financial help. Community Colleges now are expensive compared to 4-year colleges. “Countries like Europe, have already made this a reality,” according to the University of People.
Some may argue college tuition should not be lowered because if anyone can attend college it loses its value; however, college should be a human right. People have the right to go to high school and earn a high school diploma, but that doesn’t go as far as a college degree would. The educational demands of our society have drastically changed, and it’s only fair to change with them.
People can make the change by going to the smaller schools and saving up money to get to the bigger schools.
