Modern Millie takes the stage

“Lights. Music. Sing. Dance.” These are the commands that students are gearing for on Friday- the day of the Modern Millie auditions.

“This might be one of the more difficult plays that Eisenhower has put on,” junior Savannah Summers said. “We haven’t done anything like this before.”

The dance audition is on Friday, Monday and Tuesday are vocal auditions and callbacks are on Thursday.

“Tryouts can be really hard, because you get really nervous,” junior Rebecca Viviano said.

To prepare for the tryouts, Viviano and Summers are looking for songs to perform at auditions. According to Viviano, it’s recommended for students in choir or in theater to find songs that are from the musical.

A lesser known production, Modern Millie is set in the 1920’s. The play is full of dancing and singing numbers centered around a young girl (Millie) who grows up on the countryside but wants to move to New York and become famous.

“What I like about the play is the fact that it’s different,” Viviano said. “The play is so old and we get a new perspective on life.”
