Ask the player: Eric VanSlembrouck

 

Senior Eric VanSlembrouck enters his fourth and last year playing on varsity hockey. VanSlembrouck plays as a center forward on the team and serves as a valuable force each year.  With his constant work ethic and speed, he received a total of 16 points last season.

What do you look forward to most about the season?

“I look forward to spending my last year of high school hockey with all my friends and having a great season.”

What is your favorite part about being on the team?

“Being with all my friends and the atmosphere of everyone playing together.”

What kind of personal goals do you hope to accomplish?

“Just make everyone around me better and get as far as we did last year, maybe farther.”

How do you maintain the flow?

“It’s like an every other day thing. Sometimes I don’t wash it because you can’t wash it everyday. I brush it and I put a hat on a lot, it just happens.”

How does the student section affect your playing, and the team as a whole?

“It gets us going. It’s really loud, and it’s energetic.”

What game are you most looking forward to?

“Probably Dakota because they are our biggest rivalry.”

Does senior year affect how you play knowing it is your last year playing Eisenhower Hockey?

“Yeah, it’s sad but I have to go out just as good as we always have any other year, and play a little harder.”

What do you do to get mentally and physically prepared before games? Do you have any pre-game rituals?

“We always play ping pong, get to the rink about 2 hours early and kick around a soccer ball, and then we do our warm ups.”

Who/what has influenced you the most throughout the years of playing Ike Hockey?

“When I was a sophomore, all the seniors really made me want to play harder and be like them, and just be that good.”

What do you do in your spare time when you aren’t playing hockey?

“Sleep.”
