Poetry slam upcoming

Get ready to snap: Poetry day is right around the corner.

The annual event allows students to recite poetry in creative, fun ways.

Former English teacher Joann Schubert, who passed away from pancreatic cancer, is the inspiration for the special day.

“Joann Schubert was a teacher that students would always ask for advice about anything. She was such a joy to be around and had a passion for poetry,” English teacher Craig Pajak said.

Her admiration for poems led teachers and administrators to start Poetry day the year after she passed.

“Students learn what it’s like to share their art in front of an audience that is listening. Many students enjoyed their experience so much they want to participate in the poetry [day] the following year,” English teacher Andrew Bulat said.

Students get the opportunity to share his or her personality and art in front of their peers. Those wishing to participate may read a poem, sing, act or present self-made videos.

All content presented must be school appropriate.

Poetry day is Thurs., Apr. 27. All English classes will attend.
