Future educators pair up with LCCE students to help them Christmas shop at Lakeside mall on Dec. 5.

“It’s a combined effort between Mrs. Oprita’s special needs class and our class,” future educators adviser Margaret Mazuchowski said. “My second-year students coordinated the whole trip and volunteered to give up their time.”

Future educators and LCCE students leave for Lakeside at 9:45 a.m. and return to school at 2 p.m. on Friday.

“It’s part of our required community service,” Mazuchowski said. “It gets the future educators used to being around special education students that are different than anybody else.”

This is only the third time ever, where LCCE students bring their own money to buy presents for their family for Christmas.

“I love helping the special needs kids pick out their gifts,” senior future educator Kayla Pirie said. “It gives me experience and I also make a lot of new friends.”
