Seniors celebrate the beginning of their last school year watching the sunrise, eating pancakes and taking pictures with friends in the annual Senior Sunrise tradition.
“What I enjoyed most about senior sunrise was talking with my friends and hanging out. It’s so important to get involved in your senior year because it’s your last year to really make things count. Taking all the pictures means that we will have these memories forever to look back on and that’s a special thing,” senior Sophia Tripi said.
Homemade painted jeans and poster boards that students took pictures with were seen during this event.
“I didn’t think that most people would paint their jeans and make posters boards, but a lot of people did, which was cool to see,” senior Anastasia Spyridakis said.
Junior Class President Alyssa Kasmikha took the lead in planning the event, with the rest of student council helping organize all the details. They purchased ingredients for pancakes, waffles and juice and even provided “Senior Sunrise” signs for the occasion. To catch the sunrise, students arrived as early as 5:45 a.m. and the student council encouraged everyone to join in by making a group TikTok to capture the moment.
“I feel accomplished. Everyone looked like they really enjoyed the event and the weather was beautiful, which made it even better,” Kasmikha said. I think it is important to make the best out of high school, especially senior year. It’s important to create meaningful memories and being involved also helps students grow as leaders, connect with others and leave a positive impact before they graduate.”
For next year’s senior sunrise Kasmikha suggests that they have seniors skip their first hour.
“If we had seniors skip their first hour then it would give them more time to hangout,” Kasmikha said. “But the primary goal of the event was to get the whole senior class together for one of their last big events before the end of high school.”
