Approximately 29,000 units of red blood cells are needed every day in the U.S., according to www.redcrossblood.org.
“You’ll never know when you need it, but at some point in your life, you or someone you love will probably need a blood donation. Blood is one of the only components in a hospital system that can’t be synthesized, it has to be donated, so I would encourage people to save a life,” key club adviser Linda Cruan said.
Key club members encourage the donation on Dec. 4 in the Performing Arts Center, because of the lives it saves and the big community surrounding the school.
“We have such a large community that the blood drive is a good source for people to come to,” senior Ava Skonieczny said.
This year, the key club is doing things a little differently, by promoting better and having a bigger committee than last year to get the attention of students.
“Last year we did pretty well,” senior Ava Sinishtaj said, “This time it’s just a matter of getting more blood and more people doing it and doubling their blood cells.”
