Starting this fall, the book club begins a new chapter while reading and discussing a variety of books.
“[I joined the club because] I like reading and I needed the motivation to do it because I feel like I don’t do it enough,” junior Gabrielle Tasky said.
The club meets on the first Wednesday of every month from 2:15 p.m. to 3 p.m. in room 110, where they’ll discuss that month’s book and vote on their next read.
“I have a love for reading, and I am involved in my own book club with my own group of friends. So, I thought I’d bring that love of reading to Eisenhower,” club advisor April Stockton said.
The previous book club was sponsored by English teacher Holly Kralik and former English teacher Paula Stiff. The club ran for over five years and became inactive a couple years ago. After receiving the greenlight to restart the club from associate principal Kate Walker, Stockton faced some brief challenges while attracting members.
“At first, I didn’t get a lot of volunteers from asking the seniors that I taught. But then when I had some representatives at the club fair, I had more people sign up from other grade levels,” Stockton said.
Book club’s first meeting was Oct. 2 but anyone who didn’t attend and wishes to join the club can still go to the next meeting on Nov. 6. October’s pick is “We Were Liars” by E. Lockhart.
“I’m hoping we get to read anything that’s relevant to the students’ lives’,” Stockton said. “It’ll be good to discuss and make some connections.”
