With things to learn like professional lighting on a budget, script-writing, producing student news and animations, 10 film and journalism students attended Detroit Area Film and Television (DAFT).

“My favorite seminar was writing a script for your school’s broadcasting team, because I love to see the new rules in writing for journalism. Because I was the only one to attend this keynote it was very one-on-one and informative,” sophomore journalism student Makenna Sloat said.

Students from film teacher Josephine Braun’s class and journalism teacher Erica Kincannon’s class took a bus to the Motion Picture Institute in Troy, Mich. for a DAFT student conference on Fri, Dec. 8. This is the second consecutive  year students attended. The goal was for film and journalism students to enhance their skills and eventually team up to produce broadcast segments to post on the media staff’s website.

“The biggest thing was that [the students] came back motivated,” Braun said,” and with tools under their belts to use in competition.”
