Key club donates time and blood for the blood drive.
“Key Club is all about developing leadership through community service,” Key Club advisor Linda Craun said. “Donating blood is one of the most common ways people give back so it was an easy transition.”
Sign up runs through all lunches. Juniors and seniors 16 and up who are in good health can donate blood; students who are 16 require a signed consent form. The drive takes place in the Performing Arts Center lobby Wednesday, Dec. 13. Students donating get a pass to miss class.
“I think it’s important to donate blood because it benefits other people going through things,” senior Jeenall Yelda said. “It’s so simple and easy that anyone and everyone who can, should do it.”
The blood is used for surgeries, cancer treatments, immunological problems and other procedures. Versiti Blood Center of Michigan’s company supplies receives the blood then it’s provided to the Henry Ford Health System; the blood will stay local.
“[Donating blood] can save lives, this year the blood is staying in Michigan. So, we are supporting local lives,” Key Club advisor Victoria Sedik said, “[It’s] amazing that we have so many students that are willing to help.”
