After a two year absence, the powderpuff flag football game returns on Monday, Oct. 30 at Swinehart field.
“The biggest part of this is just that it’s a fun experience,” junior coach Justin Luce said. “It’s juniors against seniors, so it’s a really fun rivalry; but all in all, we’re all still Eisenhower students. It’s kind of fun seeing them get excited about the game.”
Luce coaches the juniors, while Student Resource Officer Lauren Weiss coaches the seniors.
Luce is an experienced powderpuff coach, as he coached twice before. Senior Student Council (STUCO) members Anna Hilliard and Mariana Stojcevski persuaded Luce to return for a third game, while Weiss coaches her first.
“They needed a coach real bad, so they came and begged me [to coach],” Luce said. “I was kind of nervous when I decided.”
For the juniors, their practice’s are mostly used to find out who’s most comfortable in which position. During the seniors practice, they work on positions and run through their plays.
“I am pretty confident that we are going to win,” senior cornerback Madison Belisle said. “I think I’m pretty prepared. We run through plays and positions, but I’m not allowed to share what plays.”
The junior vs. senior game starts at 5:30 p.m. and admission is $3 per person. The event is organized by the STUCO, led by STUCO member Lily Nowak.
“It was really tough [bringing the game back]. We started kind of late so I had to contact the coaches and it was really hard finding coaches.” Nowak said. “I think it really brings people together like there’s definitely a diverse team this year. I think It’s interesting.”
