The CTE woodworking class took a manufacturing day trip where students learned about the science of engineering and how products get manufactured.

“We learned about the manufacturing process that they go through,” teachers of woodworking Ryan deCardenas, “as far as making gears and heavy machine parts for big companies like Caterpillar.”

The trip took place at the Avon Machining. The CEO is an alum student from Eisenhower who was very excited to have the woodshop students come in and learn about the industry and how everything is done and made.

“I thought that it felt rewarding to see the community members give back and want to teach kids about the industry that they have,” teacher Ryan deCardenas, “Also the opportunities that are out there for the kids for their careers.”

This trip shows many ways students can get involved in the community and gives them a job which could potentially lead to a career.

“I would go again just to kind of see because I’m sure there would be a difference five years from now,” senior Grant Fowler, “I want to see how other manufacturing plants make different things, and see how they design it.”
