Sophomore Allison Kuzera wraps gifts for the family on Tuesday, Dec.12.

Waking up to warm clothes, a hearty meal and presents under the Christmas tree might make a family’s wish come true.

“It is kind of nice to give back to the culture that is going to offer so much to you,” Spanish teacher Monica Klesko said.

The Spanish club and Spanish Honors Society (SHS) hosted their wrap and pack party on Tuesday, Dec.12, where they packaged gifts for delivery to a local Hispanic family. SHS students hand delivered those presents on Dec.18 after school.

“Aside from learning better how to think altruistically, where you want to put others’ needs ahead of your own, and to help out and to become a better world citizen, I think it is important because in your studies of Spanish you are going to be benefited in so many ways,” Klesko said.

This is the twentieth year reaching out to a local Hispanic family in need and the tenth year reaching out to a family in Utica Community Schools which has new Hispanic population, according to Klesko.

“I liked donating for this family, because it is for a good cause and I know when they will open [the presents] they will be very happy and thankful,” sophomore Spanish club member Allison Kuzera said.

Clothes, shoes, toiletries, food and everything on the family’s Christmas wish list was brought in by students.

“I know some people don’t get the opportunity to get presents for Christmas,” Kuzera said,“so being able to give them presents that they wouldn’t get makes me really happy.”
