Smith the first
She is a member of the award winning yearbook staff.
She is a member of Spanish club, Spanish Honor society, student council, National Honor society and a former cheerleader.
She is senior Aleaha Smith.
Smith is the first African American editor-in-chief of any Eisenhower High School publication. She shares the position with senior Aubrey Fisher.
“It’s actually pretty cool. I’m like breaking glass ceilings at Eisenhower,” Smith said. “There’s not many African Americans here and for me to be in a leadership position is really cool.”
Now, in the middle of her fifth consecutive year on a yearbook staff, her promotion is hard earned. Smith learned many techniques and skills she plans to use outside of the yearbook world. She’s learned time management, social skills plus she learned to work on and guide a team. All these things and she’s not in it for the recognition.
“I don’t really think of myself as someone who needs recognition. Like, I like doing what I do. I just work as hard as I can,” Smith said.
As her senior year wraps up and few deadlines remain, Smith has her eyes on producing an above quality yearbook. Plus, she plans to try out so she can speak at graduation June 10 at the Palace.
“I want everyone to remember Eisenhower as not just a place we went to everyday, but as a stepping stone in our lives.”
