Jazz band performs for Scott Gwinnell Band
The lights shine brightly down on jazz band members while the audience gives their undivided to the stage.
“It’s a rush, you’re on a stage and everyone else is listening, but also eating and having a good time,” senior Nick Gjelaj said. “It’s almost like a scene out of a movie.”
Due to the acknowledgement by award winning pianist/composer and college music professor, Scott Gwinnell, jazz band will be the opening act for the Scott Gwinnell Band. Gwinnell also teaches jazz piano at Oakland University and is an ensemble director at Michigan State University.
Jazz band will be performing in downtown Detroit at Cliff Bells around 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 24.
“I am really excited for the authentic jazz environment and meeting new people,” senior Gina Dlugosielski said.
Jazz band director Christopher Traskal and Gwinnell’s long time acquaintanceship allowed this opportunity to be possible.
“I’m extremely excited. I’ve only played there once before and to have another chance to play at a premiere Jazz club before my senior year comes to a close with all my friends and mentors is amazing,” Gjelaj said.
