Destressing for ACT
As ACT time rolls around, students go to study workshops and stress builds through the roof; it can be reduced by making simple lifestyle changes.
“The main thing that you can do to reduce the amount of stress you have is to be prepared in advance and make a study schedule for yourself,” clinical therapist Kathryn Candela said.
Also work to accept the things that can’t change, like how much studying to do at once. Instead, change old studying techniques to ensure work is not overwhelming, according to helpguide.org.
“Eating healthy and a good night’s sleep are also two things that become very important when taking a big test and can also help to reduce your amount of stress while taking it,” Candela said.
The way to remember how to deal with stress is by the four As: avoid the stressor, alter the stressor, adapt to the stressor and accept the stressor, according to helpguide.org.
“Just remember when you are taking the test to relax and keep yourself calm,” Candela said. “You will get through it and everything will be okay.”
