Fecteau writes her way to New York
Central Michigan Editor-in-Chief and alumna Jessica Fecteau bought a one-way ticket to New York to start an internship at “People” magazine.
“I’m excited to learn about how publications work on a national level and how you formulate stories so people in California will want to read them and not just people in New York,” Fecteau said.
She put down her editor pen at Central the first week in May and packs her bags for New York on June 2. Previously, Fecteau held internships at College Lifestyles, Brava magazine and Red Frog Events.
Fecteau’s past experiences taught her how to motivate editors to promote ideas that audiences will want to read, according Central Michigan University adviser Betsy Rau.
“I think that is why she got the internship with ‘People’, because she really has a good handle on what’s happening,” Rau said. “She has a foot in the door in the magazine industry and the internship at ‘People’ could open doors for her to get a permanent job.”
While at the magazine as an editorial intern, Fecteau seeks to make connections with editors, other writers and sources.
“It has always been my goal to move to New York and work for a really big national publication,” Fecteau said. “Having a lot of experience and really putting myself out there is what helped me land the ‘People’ intership.”
