Varsity Softball and Baseball go camo

The Men’s Varsity Baseball team shows off their new camoflauge jerseys in front of a helicopter at Selfridge Air Base. “We felt it was a nice keepsake for the boys, putting their names on the back and allowing them to keep them after graduation,” Gendreau said.

With the start of the 2014 spring season, the Varsity Softball and Baseball teams both acquired new home and away jerseys, featuring a camouflage print.

“I like the new jerseys we got this year, because its something different than what we’ve had before,“  junior Varsity Baseball pitcher Trevor Curle said.

The softball jerseys combine a black and white digital camo print shirt, while the baseball jerseys feature a blue digital print.  The camouflage jerseys include the players last names on the back.  These updated jerseys are the first print jerseys in Eisenhower sports.  The softball team also got another new jersey, which is a button-up regular looking baseball jersey.

“The new camo jerseys are very light and make it easier to move around, especially when it’s hot out,“ junior Varsity pitcher Johanna Zweng said. “The new button up jerseys we got are very heavy and uncomfortable.”

The jerseys were purchased this year because of extra money within the softball and baseball accounts through the Athletic Booster Club.  The Booster Club raises money for the school sports and when there’s extra money to be spent, the teams choose what they want to spend it on.  Instead of choosing to spend this year’s money on dugouts, both teams agreed to buy new jerseys within the price range.

“The Nike Camo print idea was taken from the Michigan State Basketball team who wore them last season against UNC on the battleship,” Gendreau said “each year I like to add something new for a team to make their experience unique.”
