This year offers numerous school experiences as the sophomores enter their first year of high school.
“I was scared that I was not going to be able to find my classes on the first day of school,” sophomore Amilia Cvetkovski said.
As the first year being away from the junior high, sophomores notice the difference between the two schools. When attending the junior high students express the lack of freedom and strict policies.
“There are different rules that we had in junior high such as not being allowed to have your phone in the hallway, wearing your ID and not being able to wear a regular backpack. We don’t have these rules in high school, so sophomores are making the adjustment,” sophomore Ava Khami said.
A new experience also includes a different way of learning. Being in a new school gives students an opportunity to encounter new teaching techniques and what they like about them.
“My favorite class is chemistry because I get to interact and learn hands on,” sophomore Aiden Saif said.
Since a big school can be a lot to handle, there are ways to try and make new students feel welcomed and comfortable. Being an upper classman plays a huge part knowing that younger students look up to them in times for guidance. Looking for acceptance also plays a big part and when a student has a welcoming demeanor, it can make the high school experience a lot more fun.
“I think the older kids inviting the younger kids to be a part of what makes Eisenhower fun is a huge point,” student council adviser Amber Bronson said, “Kids don’t necessarily always feel they are comfortable to step outside of their shell in order to take advantage of different activities and different opportunities,” Bronson said.
