Ice Cream & Custard Shops

56752 VanDyke, Shelby Twp.

Mon- Thurs, Sun: 12 p.m. – 9 p.m.

 Food: A- tasty

Staff: A- nice, cheery

Atmosphere: B roomy, colorful

Ice Cream and Custard Shops usually goes unnoticed, shoved into the middle of a strip mall. However, the inside style resembles a classic 1950s theme. The staff members provide slow service, but that is masked by their radiant personalities. Frozen custard and hand dipped cones, sundaes and various types of cream puffs are unique options, rather than simple Stroh’s ice cream. The quantity of ice cream given is admirable, but may also be excessive– especially since each item is priced low. On the other hand, quality is on their side when food is concerned. Even though a quick visit isn’t probable, Ice Cream and Custard Shops is a good idea for a family night out.

Maceri’s Soup & Scoop

47109 Hayes, Utica

Hours:

Mon- Fri: 9 a.m. – 8 p.m.

Sat: 10 a.m. – 8 p.m.

Sun: 12 p.m. – 7 p.m.

 Food: B flavorful

Staff: A outgoing

Cost: C+ expensive

Atmosphere: A- homey, comfortable

Showing a traditional outside, Maceri’s Soup and Scoop looks like an every day shop. However, serving floats and shakes, to subs and soup, they stand out, even though the quality doesn’t necessarily match the price. Instead of visiting for a typical dessert, switch it up and try a lunch or dinner. While making a more enjoyable experience, the staffers are easy to talk to and make customers feel right at home. Even sitting at a table or booth, the surroundings feel like a typical living room. Although Maceri’s Soup and Scoop shows a few setbacks, it is a nice change of pace from other regular ice creams shops.
