National Honor Society (NHS) elects new board members for the 2025-2026 school year.
“I hope they can run everything as smoothly as everything’s gone so far. I’m sure they will but they’ve got a lot of responsibility on their shoulders,” NHS advisor Michelle Wood said.
NHS recently elected new board members for the upcoming school year. The upcoming board consists of juniors board president Julia Aniel, vice president Lily Neumann, treasurer Delaney Wolsker, secretary Josh Pauline and parliamentarian Jacalyn Yakel.
The current board is headed by seniors board president Maya Azar and vice president Zoey Azar. The pair is aided by treasurer Lorenza Vitale, secretary Ava DiLisio and parliamentarian Isabella Gjokaj who will continue to run the organization until the end of the school year.
“Most of them are very ambitious and determined. Obviously, it takes a lot of confidence to even run for executive board and just stand in front of your entire class, just give your case, but I think they are very excited to make good changes,” Azar said.
During the election process, interested students can apply for any of the five board positions before being nominated for a communal vote that decides which students are appointed.
“I ran because I thought it’d be a good opportunity to showcase my leadership and give back to the community,” Aniel said.
Board members bear the brunt of the responsibility within the organization. With oversight from Wood, board members are tasked with coordinating events and meetings whilst managing general club minutiae like attendance and volunteer hours, which every NHS member is required to accrue. The board coordinates with Mr. Manzella and other faculty when planning events.
“I know everyone on the board,” Aniel said. “I think they’ll all do a really good job helping altogether.”
