Holiday bliss fills the school as students search for Ike, the elf on the shelf, every morning.
“I love that the kids get excited. It brings a little bit of Christmas excitement to the building,” administrative assistant Sandra Austin Said.
The tradition has been going for two years. Before school hours, the elf is hidden somewhere in the building for students to find. The first student to email Mrs. Austin a picture of the elf’s location wins a Christmas tree brownie.
“I have 15 to 20 emails from students looking for the elf, when I walk in the door,” Austin said.
Many students actively look for the elf before their first hour classes. Once they spot it they send the email, hoping to hear their names during the morning announcements.
“I felt very excited when I won, because I was the first one to find it this year,” senior Sandra Dawood said.
This was Dawood’s first time winning a prize for locating the elf. On Monday, Dec. 2, she found it sitting on a sign.
“I like that it puts people in their Christmas spirit,” Dawood said. “It’s just fun for the whole school.”
