The annual student-led telethon helps donate money to the well-known Toys for Tots organization on Thursday, Dec. 5.
“It kind of gives kids a break from schoolwork and being able to participate in such a cool event. And it’s also something that helps a bunch of people whether or not you realize it, because a lot of kids don’t have presents on Christmas under the tree. It’s something that can make someone’s day or year for Christmas,” senior student council member Bella Lechner said.
Toys for Tots is an organization that donates toys to parents who cannot afford to put gifts under the tree on Christmas. The telethon is an event where, at the beginning of every hour, students run money down to the library. The class with the most money wins a prize depending on the hour.
“We’re going to have a lot of fun games, a lot of holiday themed games, and then we’re going to have our traditional dance team and cheer team, and just a lot of fun holiday themed games,” senior student council leader Julia Manduzzi said.
Throughout the event, senior announcers Olivia Sinishtaj and Michael Dziadula will be keeping everyone updated on a regular basis. Between every hour, there will be various events starting with candy cane fishing during first hour and ending with a game of rolling up a bottle of cranberry sprite on toilet paper. During A lunch the choir will sing Christmas carols and break for B lunch. Sprinkled in between will be a headstand competition, gingerbread houses, and a staff game.
“I think we should expect a lot of fun because it’s a lot of energy,” said Manduzzi. “It’s a really happy day knowing how much money we’re raising.”
