From dental science to parliamentary procedures the Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) members faced a variety of competitions based on the medical field at regionals.
“I was proud to see how our competitors performed with enthusiasm and professionalism, even if they didn’t place or medal, I can tell that they learned so much from the experience, and that always makes me happy,” HOSA advisor Jill Bologna said.
HOSA allows students to expand on important concepts that are covered in the school’s medical science classes, which include communication techniques, hands-on skills and teamwork. HOSA members who signed up to participate at regionals had the opportunity to apply their studies to the event they chose such as creating posters, presenting to judges, taking tests, or debating.
“I studied a lot every day but I’m a sophomore so it’s my first year, and if I really like the competition this year I am going to go and just try my hardest next year and study a lot over the summer,” sophomore Viviana Tafelski said.
This event brought multiple different high schools together and gave students the opportunity to collaborate with and compete against each other. Regionals took place at Dakota High School on Nov. 22. Between the new and returning members, they won multiple gold, silver and bronze awards.
“My favorite experiences with HOSA every time I have gone to regionals have been the memories I spent with all my friends just enjoying ourselves and finally getting to present all of our hard, dedicated work,” senior Aleska Trpkovski said. “As well as getting called up to go on the stage at awards to receive medals.”
