As auditions rapidly approach, the 25th Street Players start to scramble
“I think everyone should get a chance to sort of see what they can do. You never know what you can do until you actually try it,” theater director Eric Wells said.
Any student who wishes to join the musical must have attended the informational meeting on Nov. 25 after school. Auditions for the actors will consist of three parts spanning over Dec.2-4. Monday consists of choreography that the actors will be taught the day of, Tuesday is vocal auditions in front of Wells and vocal director Julie Holt and Wednesday is callbacks and cold reads. Everyone who auditions gets a role. Any auditions for the orchestra pit will be done through the band director Brad Arnold.
“There’s a sense of belonging to it, right? And theater students are some of the most accepting people of all walks of life,” theater director Eric Wells said.
Thespians are not the only group encouraged to audition. Wells encourages all students to come and try out, including student athletes. The musical itself is meant to be ready by early March, meaning It will interfere with winter sports (basketball, swim and dive, and wrestling).
“It’s not horrible, because I know that whatever happens is going to be fine. So, if I don’t get the role that I want for Mary Poppins,” said senior Ryan Catey, “I’m going to be happy with whatever I get. Even if it is just ensemble.”
