Duo, solo or plain spooky costumes were seen at the annual Halloween costume contest held by the student council.
“We really wanted to turn it back to the idea of those kids who really go out of their way to make a really great costume,” student council advisor Amber Bronson said.
The costume contest was held on Thursday, Oct. 31 for students to participate during first hour which was led by student council member senior Zef Gega. Unlike last year’s costume contest, judges were invited to pick out winners for prize baskets.
“We invited administration and teachers first hour to come down and then judge the costumes, that way it’s a little bit more on the purity of the costume, rather than the person who’s wearing it,” Bronson said.
Judges rated the contestants in four categories: best pair, scariest, most creative and overall best costume. The winners include seniors Katharina Stoker and Isabella Stoker for best pair dressed as “The Shining” twins, junior Kathryn Irwin as a dead farmworker for scariest, senior Arianna Papak with Harley Quinn for most creative and junior Simmons Effrum for most creative wearing a Vector costume.
“I was really, really honored that they chose me too, because this has been something I’ve been working up to for a while now,” Simmons said. “It was awesome just to be there.”
