Spanish class students entered the Ofrenda competition and made offerings to compete against each other for extra credit.
“An Ofrenda means offering, and it is a welcome home, essentially a gift to a family member to invite them to come home and visit their family members, making it a beautiful construction,” Spanish teacher Kelly Warzin said.
Students in the Spanish club looking for the extra credit brought food, pictures and decorations from home which they believed is important to have in the Ofrenda. These Ofrendas made in memory of celebrities were assembled in the media center within the time span of 20 minutes to an hour on Monday, Nov.4.
“I picked Marilyn Monroe because I like her style, and I liked her backstory, so I decided to honor her,” junior Atalya Ballow said.
Students had to speak about the traditional elements they included in their ofrendas and why they are important in order to get credit. At the end, the winner was determined by the student’s as they voted for their favorite one.
“I joined for the extra credit portion,” junior Grace Piccolo said. “but also because of the sentimental value.”
